When you register to use the the wired or wireless network at WashU, you agree to abide by the university’s Appropriate Computer Use Policy. We encourage you to review this policy from time to time to ensure your online activities are appropriate in line with the University’s code of conduct.

Computer Use

This policy and associated guidance provide direction for appropriate use of computer systems, networks, and information at WashU.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Monitoring and Recording

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for the use of CCTV on university property in a way that enhances security but also respects the expectation of reasonable privacy among members of the community. This policy applies to all students, faculty, staff, schools and departments within the university community.

Virtual Private Network Access

The WashU VPN allows you to connect to university resources which require a secure WashU network connection.

Website Hosting Policy

In general, all university internet services and all information about the university available from accessing the internet, including any of its schools, departments, divisions, centers, faculty, staff and fiscal and operating units, must use only the washu.edu domain.

Permission to Use University Names, Logos and Trademarks

Policy for use of the “Washington University in St. Louis” name and other identities on commercial websites and other commercial communications vehicles. These guidelines apply to the names and symbols of the university and its entities – schools, departments, programs, offices, groups, etc.

Registering Network Subdomains

August 1, 2018

Websites officially identified with WashU have a wustl.edu or washu.edu address. Depending on how your site is created, it’s either a subdirectory of a subdomain such as sites.wustl.edu (sites.wustl.edu/yoursite) or a subdomain of wustl.edu itself (yoursite.wustl.edu).
