The main governing body involving the faculty of the university is the Faculty Senate.
Copyright Term
The existence and duration of copyright protection depends on (1) when the work was “created” (that is, “fixed in tangible medium of expression”), and with regard only to pre-1978 works, (2) whether and when it was “published” and (3) whether that publication included notice of copyright.
University Student Conduct Code
The University Student Conduct Code sets forth community standards and expectations for WashU students. These community standards and expectations are intended to foster an environment conducive to learning and inquiry.
Conflicts of Interest Website
WashU has developed several policies and programs to ensure financial activity and external professional activities do not compromise or appear to compromise the objectivity and integrity of education, research, and clinical care.
Conflict of Commitment (For WashU Employees)
Employees may not engage in external activities that interfere with the performance of their university duties, that disrupt the operations of their department or school, or that create an actual or apparent conflict of interest with their university responsibilities.
Faculty Consulting Privileges
In common with most academic institutions, WashU permits faculty members in most of its schools to engage in a reasonable amount of external professional activity that may be compensated from external sources.
Continuing Medical Education Program – COI
As a provider accredited by the Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education, WashU must ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all Continuing Education (CE) activities that it provides and credits. The content or format of CE activities and related materials must be crafted to promote improvements in quality of healthcare and not to promote proprietary business or commercial interest.
Board of Trustees
WashU’s Board of Trustees is the chief governing body of Washington University in St. Louis. As such, the Board provides strategic oversight in order to ensure the institution is moving in the right direction.

As stated in its code of conduct, WashU is committed to the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct. To achieve this goal, the university relies on each member of the university community to transact university business in compliance with all laws, regulations and university policies related to their positions and areas of responsibility, as well as on their behavior, honesty, integrity and good judgment.
