Leaves of Absence for Faculty

The university has no standard sabbatical leave program. An application for a leave is considered on its own merits. A combination of factors, among them length of service, scholarly promise, particular contemplated research, nearness to completion of a major book, delays in production caused by heavy teaching, administrative or committee loads, etc., are considered in the granting of a leave.

Flexible Work Arrangement Policy (Including Remote Work and Telecommuting)

In general, the majority of employees at WashU perform their duties on-campus in support of our teaching, clinical and research operations. The University also recognizes that the utilization of flexible work arrangements offers advantages for both the University and our employees where these arrangements are operationally appropriate.

Consensual Faculty-Student Relationships

When one partner to a consensual romantic, dating or sexual relationship holds a position of academic or professional authority with respect to the other partner in connection with their University roles, the potential may exist for favoritism, breach of trust, abuse of power, or conflicts of interest. Such situations may also raise questions concerning the consensual nature of the relationship.

Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct describes standards to guide us in our daily University activities, standards we believe are already being followed.

Faculty Information Handbook

This faculty information handbook is offered as a reference guide to information and policies that affect WashU faculty.

Administrative Suspension

January 1, 2007

In the exceptional event that it is necessary to take immediate action in order to prevent harm to members of the WashU community, to preserve the integrity of records, or to protect university facilities, a person with administrative authority within the university (e.g., a dean or department chair) may deem it necessary or advisable to place a faculty member on administrative suspension.
