In May 27, 2025, Chancellor Andrew D. Martin formed the Inclusive Excellence Advisory Committee charged with providing actionable recommendations to sustain WashU’s longstanding commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and work environment while ensuring strict compliance with applicable civil rights laws. Chancellor Martin appointed a group of university faculty and administrative leaders to work with general counsel.

Core objectives
Grounded in WashU’s mission and vision, the committee was charged with working with the Office of the General Counsel to:
Provide clear guidance
Develop accessible frameworks for leadership, faculty, staff, and students regarding programming that supports inclusive excellence under current legal statutes.
Identify best practices
Highlight exemplary programs and initiatives that successfully advance inclusive excellence both at WashU and peer institutions.
Establish sustainable review
Recommend an enduring process to review university programs, ensuring ongoing alignment with civil rights regulations.
