Policy on AIDS

AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is a serious public health problem. Estimates reported by the Centers for Disease Control ("CDC") suggest that in 1990 approximately 1 million living persons in the United States were infected with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), the virus shown to be the cause of AIDS. As the prevalence of HIV is the same for a university population as society, HIV infection and AIDS can appear on any campus, including the campus of Washington University. Washington University is therefore committed to having educational programs and institutional policies which respond appropriately and effectively to the epidemic. Such programs and policies shall be guided by recommendations of the U.S. Public Health Service, the CDC and the American College Health Association and by the University's due regard for both public health interests and individual rights.

A complete copy of the Washington University Danforth Campus Policy on AIDS is available at the Student Health Service, Karl Umrath Hall, and the Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Students and Dean of Students in the Residential Life Office.
